Acrylic Acid

Introduction

Acrylic acid (AA), formula C3H4O2, is a colourless liquid with a sharp smell that dissolves in water. It is the simplest carboxylic acid with a double bond and polymerises easily, which makes it the starting point for many acrylic polymers.

Acrylic acid is corrosive and flammable, and it can polymerise by itself at normal temperature. It is therefore supplied with an inhibitor and must be stored away from heat and light. Follow the safety data sheet (SDS) during transport and storage.
