Polyolefin Elastomer

What Is POE?

Polyolefin elastomer (POE) is a thermoplastic elastomer used to make polymer compounds more flexible, impact resistant and tough. Unlike vulcanised rubber, POE is processed with ordinary plastics methods such as extrusion, injection moulding and compounding.

LG Chem's POE, sold under the LUCENE brand, is a copolymer of ethylene with an alpha-olefin (octene or butene). POE is rarely used on its own: it is added to polypropylene, polyethylene or TPO compounds to improve impact strength, flexibility and low-temperature performance. The right grade depends on the hardness you need, the base polymer, the process and the filler content.
